Standard Youth Events
Worship Night –At a minimum of once a
quarter the youth will join together for a night dedicated to praise and
worship. The night will be themed based on the time of year or on
circumstances that lead to the evening. The night will be broken into
two sections—worship and open mic. There will be time for the youth and
the staff to share what God places on their heart during the time of
worship or in the days, weeks, or months leading up to it.
Winter Camp – A weekend camp that takes place the second weekend in
January. The camp will consist of devotionals, worship, and lessons as
well as games and opportunities of the participants to reflect. Winter
camp generally costs between $90 and $120 per student. Fundraiser
opportunities will be available to bring down both the overall cost of
camp and the individual cost for each individual.
Green Day – Green day takes place the Wednesday closest to St.
Patrick’s Day. It is where we encourage the kids to dress in green and
have green themed games. This has nothing to do with the environment,
only the color green. In the past, we have had a green relay, green
trivia, and even green music. At the very end, we usually have a
massive ice-cream sundae in plastic gutters. This is a long event, so
youth group will typically start a half hour early.
Graduation Party – At the end of the school year, we like to
celebrate the achievements of those moving on to new realms, be it high
school, college, the work force, or the military. The second Wednesday
in June is a perfect time to congratulate our grads and partake in
fellowship with them and their families. We ask all the non-graduating
youth to donate $5 to help with the cost of the party.
Summer Camp – A weeklong camp that takes place second week after
July 4th. Summer camp is more in-depth with more
opportunities to reach the kids one-on-one. Typically the older, more
seasoned youth get a chance to cut their teeth by delivering some of
devotionals and taking charge of some of the games. The cost for
summer camp generally runs from $120 to $200. As with the winter camp,
there are fundraising opportunities for the youth.
Kickoff – After the new school year begins and the youth have had a
chance to settle in, we have our annual kickoff. The first Wednesday of
September is chock full of games, music, and entertainment for the youth
and their friends in hopes of getting them excited for the new school
year. The kickoff usually starts around 6:30 PM and concludes at 9:00
PM.
Christmas Party – The final
event of the year takes place the Wednesday before Christmas. There
will be caroling (inside), games, and a message. The biggest treat for
the youth is the White Elephant gift exchange. We ask that the gifts
that they bring to exchange are gender neutral, under $5, appropriate
for youth ages 10 – 18, and wrapped.
